Old Files

separator

You have the right to request a copy of your file or request that it is sent to another solicitor. There may be a charge of some sort involved depending on the nature of the request and what is involved and we will advise you of this if applicable. You also have the right to request that we delete all of the personal data that we hold for you (subject to our data retention policy).

Please note that our general data retention policy is that we retain old files for a minimum period of six years from the date on which they have completed. This is because we, the client and third parties have a legitimate interest in retaining files for the primary period during which a claim can be brought against a person that relates to issues dealt with in their file.

After six years, we may destroy papers at any time and without reference to the client concerned. There are some exceptions to this general rule, for example, relating to wills and trusts. Further information is available in our data privacy and retention policy. If you would like a copy of our data privacy and retention policy please email ckb@chennellssolicitors.co.uk

If your file is more than six years old then it may have been shredded. Shredding is carried out by an independent company which provides us with Certificates of Destruction.

If you would like to have access to any documents, would like to request that we delete all personal data held for you or would like any assistance on a matter relating to an old file which we may still be holding at our office, please let us know.
